He Was Replacing Tiles In His Kitchen When A Discovery Gave Him An Even Better Idea

Working with exposed brick seems like it would be an easy way to decorate. All you have to do is leave the brick as it is and you’re done, right?

Well, not necessarily. Redditor herringheart recently discovered that when plaster and tile have already been slapped on to a 100-year-old wall, it’s pretty difficult to bring that brick out again. Fortunately, he’s not one to back down from a challenge. Here’s how he turned a tacky kitchen into a chic new space with a little bit of elbow grease (and a whole lot of patience).

This is what the kitchen looked like when he started.

Lobster tiles. Yikes.

He originally planned to just replace the tile.

But then he noticed some bricks under the plaster that had been hidden for decades.

That’s when he decided to grab a crowbar (and a mask for all that dust).

Chiseling away all of the plaster left him with a pretty huge mess.

After the plaster was removed, he cleaned the wall by attaching a steel brush to his drill. That’s when things started coming together.

Once the brick was fully exposed, he worked on the countertop and cabinets.

He also took it upon himself to update the wiring.

Next, he fitted the fancy new kitchen with an even fancier new range.

After all that work, he was left with this stunning result!

Pretty amazing, right?

First meal cooked in this kitchen? Lobster, hopefully!

Transformations like this might require a ton of work, but exposed bricks can add a ton of character to any home. If you want to try something like this at your place, click here for more details.
